Student Name: Brittany M.

Bio: I am a tenth grade student who enjoys playing sports and nearly anything athletic. I play club softball, varsity volleyball and softball for my school and teach pitching lessons to a nine-year old girl. I am a decent student who loves school and works very hard. I am the class treasurer for the tenth grade and floor captain for my volleyball team. My goal is to go to college and play softball, while majoring in sports medicine. Music has a huge influence in my life. I did not enjoy reading until my freshman year in high school.

Previous Knowledge / Opinions about Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland Prior to the Project: As a young girl, I remember watching the movie Alice in Wonderland, but remember very little of it. I remember a young girl becoming very large at one point and a cat which she follows around in a magical land, but other than that I do not remember anything. From what I have heard, this story references drugs subtly quite often, which makes sense when considering the wild world to which Alice enters.

Thoughts about the Project on Day 1: I am very excited about this project because I enjoy group projects and I am rather curious about how drugs are implanted in the story written for a young twelve-year-old girl. I am hoping that through this project I will learn both the story of Alice in Wonderland, as well as reading what is in between the lines.

Student Name: Derek M.

Bio: As a tenth grade student at a private institution, I enjoy learning about many different subjects. School is a very integral part of my life, but I also have to balance extracurricular activities as well. I play club soccer and tennis at a very high level and I also like to teach younger kids how to manage their Diabetes due to the fact that I am diabetic. My favorite subject in school is English and I enjoy writing very much. My favorite authors include Iris Johansen, Edgar Allen Poe, and Stephen King. I am very multi-faceted and I take pleasure in many different activities. Overall, I am an intelligent and energetic person that enjoys many different types of activities. I will try anything once.

Previous Knowledge / Opinions about Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland Prior to the Project: I do not have any knowledge of Alice in Wonderland, other than Disney’s version of the story that I indulged in when I was younger. I thoroughly relished the movie when I was younger, despite the more grim underfacing tones of the movie.

The Alice Project could provide a resource to the great story of Alice in Wonderland for generations and I am enthralled to be apart of such a revolutionary project. It not only reaches those who are studying Alice, but it also provides a basis for students to be proud of. It also allows the students to live in a collaborative work environment very similar to those they will encounter in the future. I believe this project will not only provide literal knowledge of the book, but it will also give a means of figurative comfort in knowing how to thrive in a lightly controlled setting with endless interpretations. I am excited to see what other teams are able to produce.

Thoughts about the Project on Day 1: The project seems to be very interesting. There are many opportunities for originality, as well as a tangible connection between the sixteen groups. I am very happy to embark on the journey to analyzing Alice in a whole new light, free of the Disney picture’s interpretations of the literary classic.

Student Name: Kyle M.

Bio: My name is Kyle, and I am a tenth grade student in a college preparatory school. I enjoy reading literature, watching movies, and appreciating art of all shapes and forms. I enjoy writing immensely and look forward to contributing to this project throughout the next four weeks.

Previous Knowledge / Opinions about Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland Prior to the Project: I watched an old videotape of the Disney Cartoon to death when I was younger, but aside from some notable scenes with the Cheshire Cat and a few pieces of information that I’ve gathered through pop culture osmosis, I have  no recollection of the characters or events. I do remember digging the style of the original film and how it balanced a sense of wonder with surprisingly dark thematic material.

Thoughts about the Project on Day 1: While I’m still a little uncertain about what would be a good direction to take with the project, I’m generally excited about the possibilities that have been laid out before us. It will be an enjoyable learning experience.

Student Name: Angela W.

Bio: I am a tenth grader in a private institution. Being in a college preparatory school makes it challenging for me at times especially when I face juggling cheerleading, community service, and soccer while still being able to maintain my grades.

Previous Knowledge / Opinions about Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland Prior to the Project: I do not have any further knowledge on Alice in Wonderland, other than the Disney movie I saw when I was a child. A young girl, named Alice, falls asleep under a tree and has a dream about her falling down the rabbit hole and going through a magical adventure, while meeting fascinating characters along the way. I am very interested in discovering information about Alice that I would of never noticed before.

Thoughts about the Project on Day 1: This project seems like a very interesting project and one that I will remember forever. I’m not sure exactly what we are supposed to be developing besides reacting to the chapters in the book through blogging. I am excited about this project because we get to create this webpage in group of different people. There is room for originality and personality for everybody. I cannot wait to see what my group and others come up with.

Student Name: Taylor C.

Bio: I am a tenth grader at a prestigious private school. I enjoy school in general, but my favorite subjects are Science and English. When I have free time I enjoy reading science fiction/mystery books. I especially enjoy the many teen series’ of James Patterson. When I’m not doing school work or reading I play the piano, take part in club soccer, volleyball, and play football and basketball with my guy friends. I also enjoy participating in different church activities weekly. After high school I plan to go to college then med school, and one day become a neurosurgeon.

Previous Knowledge / Opinions about Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland Prior to the Project: I have very little knowledge of Alice in Wonderland. I remember many years ago watching the Disney VHS version of it, but that was so long ago and I am only left with minor details in my memory. The only details I remember are Alice falling down the rabbit hole, the smoking caterpillar, and the Mad Hatter, but that’s about it.

Thoughts about the Project on Day 1: I am very interested in learning how the project will work out. Ever since the project was mentioned in class for the first time, I have been very eager to learn more about both Alice in Wonderland and how creating blog sites works out. I also am looking forward to sharing my knowledge with the world and working with my peers in the process.
